For goodness sake - ditch the 'whom it may concern'

August 17 2009 , Written by thediversetraveller Published on #DiverseTraveller, #DiverseTraveller.com - Women Who Travel, Write, Snap & Share, #travel writing tips, #volunteer, #women travel writers

Computer_wot Each month I receive about three emails from women who want to volunteer with DiverseTraveller or who want to contribute addressed to 'Whom it may concern'.

How lazy is that? The first rule of job hunting and writing for publication is find out as much as you can about the company. And for goodness sake find out the name of the editor.

It's not like, I have hidden my name or contact details. Honestly these emails really annoy me.

So how do I respond? For contributors, if I am in a good mood, I email them back with a soft reprimand. Unfortunately, for those looking to volunteer, I delete; after all, if they can't be bothered to visit the Diverse Traveller website, I can't be bothered to read their application.

So, if you are thinking of writing to Diverse Traveller, any other website or offline publication, i implore you to first find out who the relevant person is and address your email to them.

whew! Good to get that off my chest.
