Niagara Falls to Turn into a Winter World Wonderland

After only eight days in Canada, I am obsessed with the country, boring anyone who will listen with tales of my trip, pity I can't get my creative juices flowing to write about it. I have lost count of the number of people who have endured, I mean enjoyed, my Canada photo slide show of just under 200 photos.

One of my favourite memories is of a trip to Niagara Falls, from the Canadian side. I was expecting so much, and the Falls didn't let me down. Being soaked by the falls was an awesome experience.

Back in the UK, I indulge my Canadian fix by listening to podcasts and weekly visits to the Canada's Official Tourism Website.

Last week a press release for Niagara Falls landed in my inbox, a tale of three million lights and hundreds of glittering displays that will cast a colourful glow across Niagara Falls this winter.

And that is not all, This Winter Festival of Lights sparks to life with an opening ceremony on November 7 2009.

Matching the brilliance of the lights will be a 'star-studded season of entertainment that includes the November 12 Niagara Falls Comedy Fest, Christmas Concerts by country singer Loretta Lynn and the Gatlin Brothers, and for the whole family, the magical Chronicles of Narnia at the new Queen Street Theatre.

And if that was not joy enough, in a moment sure to put everyone in the festive spirit, this year's special guests are Mickey and Minnie Mouse, all the way from Disney to help with the official lighting ceremony.

Other free events include weekly fireworks over the Falls, an exciting New Years Eve Extravaganza and with the purchase of an adult ticket, free Saturday matinees for kids to the ever popular Jump, Jive, and Jingle held in the cosy Log Cabin Theatre.

Whew! There are so many things to do and enjoy in Niagara Falls this winter, making it an ideal destination for a winter holiday. Pity my student finances won't stretch that far.
