Spokeswoman for Silentnight Dr Nerina Ramlakhan gives her top tips on how to get back into a natural sleeping pattern after a holiday.

Sleeping
Tired of being jet lagged? Spending countless nights after coming back from a holiday clock watching? With three quarters of us failing to get a good night’s sleep, you are not alone in feeling sleep deprived.
Lack of sleep is harmful to the body. Tiredness can make us irritable and grumpy, reduce productivity levels, increase our anxiety levels, lead to weight increase as we eat to counter a lack of energy as well as weakening our immune system as our sleepless nights build up – all of which is not what you want when you have just returned rested from a well deserved break.

Bed specialists Silentnight recognise the importance of a good night’s sleep, especially after returning from a vacation. They have put their money where their mouth is and teamed up with Dr Nerina Ramlakahn author of Tired But Wired, Sleep Therapist at Capio Nightingale Hospital, to discuss tips to combat jet lag and how to sleep soundly when back home.

Amongst Dr Ramlakan's tips are:

  • Prepare for jet lag up to 48 hours before you travel
  • Make sure you get enough exercise so you will be tired when you actually travel
  • Increase your hydration levels
  • Minimise stimulants, such a caffeine and alcohol
  • Rest on the journey, try not to spend your time watching films or playing on computers.

Listen to the short but practical podcast:

Join Silentnight's silent revolution and help the nation enjoy a comfortable, restful night, every night.

How do you deal with Jet lag? And if you don't get it, how come?
