'Oh, The Places You'll Go!' by Dr Suess reminds me to take charge of my life

Last week, I spent hours sorting through the things I have placed in storage for years. Each year, with clinical detachment, I sort, disguard, and rebox. However, I lose all detachment when it comes to sorting through my many boxes of books; books that take up most of the space in my storage unit.

Dr Seuss - Place you'll go
Childhood reminder to ditch limitations and embrace life

One of such box contained a variety of children's books, books I have not read in years. Routing through this box, I was like a child at Christmas time, I was excited to know what was in the box. After, disgarding many that didn't live up to my excitment, into the 'donate pile,' I came across a battered copy of Dr Seuss - Oh, The Places You'll Go! I was bemused I still had it. But before placing it in the 'donate plile' I flicked through it - big mistake.

From the first page, the vibrant pictures and chatchy verses, transported me back in time, once again I was in my childhood bedroom, under my covers happily chanting this ryhming verse.

“You have brains in your head.

You have feet in your shoes.

You can steer yourself any direction you choose.

You’re on your own.

And you know what you know.

And you are the one who’ll decide where to go.”

Dr Seuss - Yellow Back Book - Oh, The Places You'll Go!

As I closed the book to reboxed it, yep, it stays, I was thankful that the good doctor had reminded me to take charge of my life.
