Travelling Around the World in 80 ... Showers

April 22 2013 , Written by The Diverse Traveller Published on #around the world, #travel, #travelling, #Around the world in 80 showers, #Gary Knox

Phileas Fogg and Michael Palin did it in 80 days but today intrepid traveller Gary Knox returns to the UK today after travelling around the world in 80 showers.

Gary Knox - Around the world in 80 showersThere isn't much of the world left that hasn't been travelled in diverse and sometimes very strange ways. Places that have been much written about, filmed and photograped, so finding an original travel angle, to get others interested is not easy, especially when looking for a sponsor or media angle.

Such a challenge would put many of us off, but not intrepid traveller Gary Knox. Gary's idea was to use the theme of the book, 'Around the world in 80 days,' coming up with the idea of travelling 'Around the world in 80 showers.'

Forward to four months ago, Gary now with his orginal idea in hand, "to seek out the world’s undiscovered, unusual, unique, bizarre and spectacular showering experiences", and a sponsor, set-off on the first of his shower adventures. But his travels were not all about have a good time showering around the world, he was also raising money for the global charity, Water Aid.*

On his travels through diferent countries and cultures, Gary experienced the diverse ways these cultures carry out their daily ablutions. He has bathed with elephants in Kochi, took a dip under the stunning Athirippilly waterfalls in India, bungy jumped, headfirst, 43 metres into New Zealand’s Kawarau River, and even took an old fashioned indoor shower at the $22 million Hollywood party home, the House of Rock.

Now back home, when asked which of the 80 was his favourite showering experience? "Guatemala!" he proclaimed, "the best shower in the world".

As if taking 80 showers around the world and raising money wasn't enough, Gary is also sharing the best of his showering experiences, with hs sponsers Mira Showers, helping them with their research and development. So keep an eye out, as there could soon be an elephant trunk showerhead taking pride of place in a shower showroom near you.
