Tips for healthy travel

When planning a holiday, even before thinking about what to pack, health is uppermost on my mind. As I have hypertension, three years ago I fainted and needed medical assistance while in the US, it's essential I pack 'good' travel insurance, along with an up-to-date European Health Insurance Card (EHIC)

But travel health concerns don't stop with a pre-existing consition, there are many potential health hazards waiting to turn a fabulous holiday into a nightmare. So, to make sure my travel health information is up to date I visit The 8 Weeks To Go travel health website.

Launched in 2010 after research showed that one in two British travellers have become ill or injured on holiday, The 8 Weeks To Go travel health campaign, supported by the Foreign & Commonwealth Office, the Royal College of Nursing and Fit For Travel, covers all aspects of healthy travel and aims to raise awareness amongst British holidaymakers. The aim is help us holidaymakers reduce the risk of becoming ill while on holiday and to keep us up-to-date on travel vaccinations.

Currently the campaign is providing travellers with five handy tips on how to stay healthy when on our travels. The website www.8weekstogo.co.uk also provides more information on the campaign plus includes factsheets and links to other authoritative access points for travel health information.
