Fancy yourself as a travel writer, want to get published and / or win great prizes? Then try one or all of the following travel competitions:
The Telegraph Travel Writing Competition: If you are just back from somewhere a little more interesting than the local park, the Telegraph Online would like the gripping details in up to 500 words. You can read previous winners on the website. Each week the daily telegraph offers readers the chance to win £200 in the currency of your choice in our travel writing competition, Just Back. Click here for entry details.
Travel writing contest for women: WIN a 12-day culture and spa tour of Vietnam with Buffalo Tours! Write a travel story (yes, you can enter more than once!), then submit your travel story before November 30, 2009.
Wanderlust magazine has got a new writing competition. They want your experiences, thoughts and feelings about airports. They can be long or short, happy or sad, poetry or prose. The winners will each get a copy of Alain de Botton’s new book A Week At The Airport, his account of seven days as writer-in-residence at Heathrow. Click here to find out more about how to enter
Don’t fancy that? Why not try their short story competition with a chance to see your work published in Wanderlust magazine? Click here for more details.
TransitionsAbroad.com invites you to enter its 2010 Narrative Travel Writing Contest with a $500 first-place prize and no fee for entry. The theme relates to the core mission of Transitions Abroad, which has always been centered on educational and responsible cultural immersion travel. They are looking for pieces which reflect a respect for what you have learned from native people, their culture, and their relationship to the land in your travels abroad—and how you have put this new awareness into action. The focus of the narrative should remain squarely on the people and land who have in some way transformed your vision of the world and have led you to new realisations or epiphanies which may have inspired you to become a volunteer, a teacher, a writer, an aid worker, a foreign service officer, an international nomad, or any other activity influenced by your experiences abroad. Click here for more details.
The Kelpies Prize is an annual prize for new Scottish writing for children. They're looking for manuscripts which are set wholly, or mainly, in Scotland. They'd love to see a cracking story with strong characters, believable dialogue and compelling atmosphere which will engage children aged roughly 9-12 years old. The closing date for entries for the 2010 Prize is 26 February 2010. Click here for entry details.
