10 Ways to be Positively Creative

April 8 2012 , Written by thediversetraveller Published on #Awake Creative, #creativity, #Excess Baggage (Misc), #Fran Sorin, #mental health, #Positive creativity, #positive thinking

After months of job application rejection letters, along with a smiliar number of rejections from editors, re my travel writing, it's no surprise I am not in the frame of mind to be cheerful or thankful. I am in no doubt that my dark mood affects the content of my applications and writing, in fact being honest, finding the motivation to do both is increasingly difficult as the days go by.

Silly in Baltimore
Travel brings out my silly side, often buried when at home

To help me re-discover my mojo, I've spent my procrastinating time, trawling the internet, reading the content on websites devoted to writing and creativity. My desire? To find something that will resonate, and kick-start my creativity.

After wading through much syruppy, touchy-feely clap-trap, I found an article by Fran Sorin on her website 'Awake Creative' that really resonated with me.

Fran provides a simple list of "64 Ways To Turn An Ordinary Day Into An Extraordinary One." No rocket science here, just a reminder of things we often take for granted or simply forget to do.

Reading through her list reminded me that, I am the only one that can chage how I see my life, and that I do indeed have much to be thankful. It's time to climb out of the valley of self-pity, and work on resurrecting my positive, determined and jet-setting self.

I'm working my way through the list, and while not all will apply or be appropriate to me, I've started with the following ten. Definately a much more useful way of spending my time that my default option of procrastination:

  1.  Give thanks for being alive before getting out of bed
  2. Smile at yourself in the mirror when brushing your teeth
  3. Wear an outfit that makes you feel good about yourself
  4. Read some passages from an inspirational or spiritual book
  5. Sit quietly and take some deep breathes
  6. Think of your day as an adventure
  7. Eat a healthy breakfast
  8. Listen to music
  9. Go for a walk in nature.
  10. Think of everything that happens as a learning experience.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels this way, so what do you do to turn your day into a positive one?
