Enjoy Your 'Jubli-cation' in the UK
With many bank holidays coming our way this Summer, I have been thinking about how to put this extra time to good use, especially the weekend of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee. And it seems I am not alone, as according to an independent survey carried out by YouGov Plc for Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA)*, one in ten of my fellow Brits is planning to enjoy the extra days off by creating a nine-day holiday, for many this will means a "staycation (holiday in your home country)."
A staycation doesn't have to be a washout or rip-off
Some may think this is a waste of the time off, as in-spite of the on-going drought, UK Summer time sunshine, is far from guaranteed; remember the incessant rain in June last year? But let's focus on the positive. Holidaying at home, means we can enjoy and take part in the Diamond Jubilee celebrations, and / or include time away from the masses in idyllic seclusion.
And it's not just the weather that puts many of us holidaying at home, it's also the cost. But with much planning and research, it doesn't have to be as expensive as you think. Staycation don't have to be dull
Within the four countries that make up the UK, there is so much variety that you can be as adventurous or as indulgent as you desire. Let's take a look at some diverse accommodation staycation ideas:
1. England - Live like royalty
Travel back in time to England's colourful and at times terrifying past. Stay in a castle once occupied by England’s most famous kings and pitch your tent next to a Roman frontier. Or create your own regal memories by living it up in stately home filled with priceless antiques and surrounded by acres that would make the Chelsea Flower Show look like a series of of allotments.
